Picnic Day at UC Davis

While PR Comm worked their butts off gathering interest forms at Cal Day, two busloads (and a few carloads) of Cal Bandsmen headed off to UC Davis to compete in the annual Battle of the Bands at the university’s Picnic Day.
We shared this afternoon with bandsmen from UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and Stanford (hiss). Besides playing favorites, Cal Band debuted new arrangements by members of the Arranging Committee, such as The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” and Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.”
The only downside of the day: upper woodwinds bus breaking down, leaving the piccs, nets and phonez stranded at Davis. But two and a half hours and a brand new bus later, we all got home safe, sound, and excited for next year’s Picnic Day!

If you had other plans for tonight, then you better hope you wrote it in pencil (or electronically, for you techno hipsters out there) because otherwise, you’d be missing the greatest show on earth! After several weeks of preparation, harassing people on Sproul, harassing donors, and harassing each other in general, The University of California Marching Band’s Spring Showcase is finally here! Come out to have a good time, and bring friends, family, or any other (not necessarily willing) acquaintance you have!

T Minus One Day!

Spring Showcase is less than 24 hours away! SO get pumped, get hyped, get EXCITED, because you know WE are! As this is being typed, the Cal Band is hard at work at our dress rehearsal for our show. To the right is only a sneak peek of the craziness that will ensue tomorrow. So we better see those seats filled!
Remember, Tickets are $5 UCB Students with ID, $7 other students, $10 General Admission, tomorrow night 7:30 pm at Haas Pavilion! Bring your friends, family, willing or not, because they’re going to walk out of here smiling the biggest they’ve had all their lives. See you there!

Less than 60 hours until the big day! BRH (and bandsmen’s dorms) is bustling with activity as bandsmen make the final preparations for the big show. If you haven’t yet, check out the Spring Showcase 2010 information page.
Remember that we also have a table on Sproul where you can buy tickets, and we’ll also be tabling in Crossroads tonight and tomorrow from 7-8 pm. Come say hi (and maybe swipe us in yeah? but only if you buy a ticket!). Come out and be prepared to have a good time, because we don’t know how else you’d be able to handle all the fun otherwise!

Cal Day 2010!

Cal Day 2010 has been proclaimed a bonafide success! Despite coinciding with UC Davis Picnic Day for the second year, we got 116 interest forms! From Sather Gate, to Memorial Glade, to Sproul Steps, the Cal Band rocked the house as Cal threw open its doors for prospective students, and the number of people stopping by the table showed us how many of those were eager to join in on all of the action as everyone from current Cal sophomores to grad students came by. Thanks for coming by our table and we hope to see you recruits at FTP!
Also thank you for coming out and supporting us at all of our performances! It really helped us to have a bunch of people to rock out in front of. The Cal Band, however, is not done for the Spring! For those of you sticking around town, come see us at our Spring Showcase next Friday, April 23rd at 7:30pm in Haas Pavilion. $5 UCB Students with ID, $7 Non-UCB Students, $10 General Admission. Tickets are available at the door or at tickets.berkeley.edu, or come by our table on Sproul for the next week!
